The new project

Remember how I was all excited about this new project I'm working on, and how I thought maybe I should remove my anonymity to talk about it? Yeah, well, I realized that I still need this blog to vent about all the issues that are arising from this project. And I remembered why I always had a blog like this in the first place. To vent about issues. With that in mind....

I don't often comment on people outside the library world. But here's the thing: people outside the library world don't know very much about libraries, and I'm getting the distinct impression that they're okay with not knowing. It shouldn't bother me so much, but you know what? It bothers me a hell of a lot. If you were to tell me that you need to figure out how to get content, and how to control that content, I will go look for that. And when I find something I think is *amazing*, and *free*, and totally dovetails into the project, shouldn't even non-librarians be excited that I found something like that?

Instead, I was told that it's not controllable enough. They want to be able to control the content more. Dudes, 2001 called and they want their proprietary information back. Come on. Ownership is overrated.

Anyway, I know this isn't a big deal, and it's not my project anyway (I'm just consulting), but when I get excited, I want other people to be excited. It's just how I am. And it's disappointing not to be rewarded.
